Pennsylvania Railroad E8 Diesel Cab Ride

This program features a “Head End” ride aboard a pair of newly restored PRR E-8 diesels from Temple to South Hamburg, PA intermixed with numerous run-bys at scenic locations along the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad (a 15 mile section of the former PRR Schuylkill Valley Branch).We begin at Temple where the train (consisting of two PRR E-8 diesels and five former Erie-Lackawanna coaches) arrives to board passengers as a Conrail freight passes. We board the cab of the 5706 and depart for South Hamburg. Run-bys are featured at Van Reed Road, Ontelaunee, Leesport, Perry Road and Five Locks. The arrival at South Hamburg is viewed from trackside as the diesels are cut off the train, make a reverse move and re-couple to the train for the trip back to Temple. Various equipment and motive power stored at South Hamburg are also seen. Higher speeds are attained on the run hack to Temple with run-bys featured at South Hamburg, Five Locks, Shoemakersville, Glen Gery, Leesport, Ontelaunee and Temple. The program ends with the train arriving at Temple and making another reverse move for the next trip north.
