We’re on the famous Mesabi Iron Range, on former Great Northern rails. See the Burlington Northern as they load ore cars with taconite pellets at both the Keewatin and Hibbing taconite plants. The BN’s long and heavy ore trains then travel over 100 miles through the scenic Minnesota forest to reach their shipping port on the shores of Lake Superior at Allouez, Wisconsin.
See the ship Mesabi Miner, a huge 1,000 foot ore boat that’s arriving at the Superior Entry for loading at BN Dock 5. Also see a tribute to both the Great Northern Railway and the legendary ship, Edmund Fitzgerald. BN diesel power includes: GP9, GP10, SD9, SD40-2 and SD60M. Most BN ore trains and the Kelly Lake locals even operate with a caboose. Also see a few trains of the DM&IR, DWP & WC. Footage era early 1990’s
