A Union Pacific Big Boy at Kansas City Union Station. Who would have guessed?! Follow 4014 as she leaves Texas and heads for Kansas City. See her in KC and then follow her on the way back home to Cheyenne. This is truly some amazing footage, including drone footage and a new song about a famous Big Boy predecessor, the “9000” series.

When the Big Boys were built, the Union Pacific had no trackage in Kansas City, so this is truly “foreign” road territory… at least when she was built. Of course, UP is well represented in Kansas City now.

I completely agree with the previous reviewer when they insinuated that there was too much drone footage and not enough ground footage… Not the best depiction of 4014, but still a pretty nice video if you are a Big Boy “superfan”.

After Pentrex capture 4014 in Nevada, California, Arizona and New Mexico in October, Pentrex capture the Big Boy for the last leg of its journey to Cheyenne. I was in Oklahoma on November 16 that year but unfortunately, they didn’t capture many locations in Oklahoma. Kansas City and Topeka is not a BNSF mainline. It is owned by Union Pacific railroad. In addition to the 4014, Pentrex debut another music video but this one had the 9000 series locomotives which was before the challengers and big Boys came to the railroad. Forney Transportation museum in Denver, Colorado is one of the scenic locations to visit and 4014’s sibling; 4005 is on display along with over 500 other equipment. 4014 return to home in Cheyenne, Wyoming before thanksgiving and 2019 came to a close and so did the decade of 2010s. No activities were planned in 2020 because Covid 19 pandemic hit everything and unfortunately that same year due to it’s poor mechanical condition, Union Pacific challenger 3985 officially retired from excursion service. I also wish they had more ground angles instead of more drone coverage.

In This 84 Minute Program, the Action Begins in Arkansas, & later through the snow in Kansas & Colorado. In addition, a music video on the 9000 series 4-12-2’s with some clips from the UP Steam Classics series by Greg Scholl is used. There are also stock footages from the big boy collection, 4014 update, 4014 returns to steam & Southwest Big Boy.

Great footage as we come to expect from Pentrex, however I was disappointed on how Kansas City was practically glossed over despite the title. The Coffeyville to KC portion is not featured as well.

One more thing, 4014 was traveling on UP’s own line between KC and Topeka, not BNSF.
