In the Trains Magazine version of the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 revival, with a mention of a mascot of a burger joint that also has a nickname from a 4-8-8-4, there is some narration by the late editor Jim Wrinn, that also includes interviews with Aaron Isaacs, Mike Pannell with 4004, Bob Lettenberger with 4017, Christina McCarthy, Jim Eherenberger, John Bush, Edward Dickens, & Austin Barker.
Along the way, there are lots of still images of steam in revenue service, as well as stock footage from other Trains Magazine titles: Big Boy-on the road to restoration, Journey to Promontory, the Golden Spike Route Today, & Big Steam is Back with 844. Not to mention some flashbacks with 3985 before it was donated to Silvis Illinois with 5511 & 6936 in November of 2022. There is also a cab ride on 4014 from Rawlins to Wamsutter on the second day of the westbound trip which includes a meet with a freight that has a CSX unit in the consist.
A handful of these scenes were later used in Big Boy on Tour, & the Best of 2019.
Aside from Trains Magazine, Countless Railroad video producers were there to witness this epic event in the final year of the 2010s decade: 7Idea, Plets Express, Revelation Video, Pentrex, James Parfrey of Steam Train Videos, Mike Armstrong, the late TJ Weber of Belt Line Productions, & both producers of America By Rail: Railway Productions, & the multi-camera crew of the late Greg Scholl.

If I could give this program 6, 7, or 8 stars instead of just 5, I would… SUPERB coverage from beginning to end! My family and I have watched this DVD several times over since purchasing it directly from Trains Magazine. All the events we missed are in this production. We were traveling a day or two behind 844 and 4014’s train when we made our trek out to Wyoming and Utah in May of 2019. It was quite a thrill to be in Ogden May 9th and 10th for the 150th Anniversary events, but it would have been nice to chase the train all the way from Cheyenne to Ogden. However, we DID get to participate in the chase from Ogden to Evanston on May 12th, and made our own video of the event! THANK YOU Trains Magazine for covering the triumphant return to life of #4014 so thoroughly! We feel as if we didn’t REALLY miss a thing!

The king has returned to the rails and 2019 was the Year of the Big Boy. After almost 6 decades of the last run of the Big Boy, Big Boy 4014 has returned to steam to participate the 150 celebration of the first Transcontinental Railroad in 2019. Teamed up with never retire steam locomotive 844, the 4014 made an inaugural trip from Cheyenne to Ogden and return in a special train “The Great Race to Ogden”. Love the history of the Big Boy 4014 and other Big Boy locomotives.
