This series is an overview of the final years of service on the famous shortline WAG. In Volume 3 we view operations from Galeton to Ansonia between March and June of 1979, including the third attempt to retrieve the stranded cars off the Elkland Line.
This series is an overview of the final years of service on the Wellsville, Addison & Galeton shortline. Volume 2 covers operations from Galeton to Ansonia between July 1978 and February 1979, including the demonstration and sale of the GE center cab #1700 locomotive to the New York and Lake Erie Railroad, its movement to Ansonia which was subsequently returned to Galeton when Conrail refused movement.
In the early and mid-1970’s, the WAG was dealt a series of devastating events from fires and flooding. Volume 1 covers operations on this interesting shortline from Galeton to Ansonia between February and June of 1978.
From October 2022 to the end of 2023, we followed many veteran EMD led trains on the Staples Subdivision. By the end of 2023, BNSF moved nearly all these survivors out of the Northtown terminal, to be replaced by GE’s.
In Volume 5, we capture veteran EMD’s leading trains from January through September of 2022. Catch them here, because BNSF has moved the EMD’s off of the Staples Sub.
The much anticipated, and long delayed, merger of the Pennsylvania and New York Central in 1968 (with the forced addition of the New Haven in 1969) was not to be a panacea for railroading in the Northeast. In Part 3, we build the famous town of Chama including scratchbuilding the Chama roundhouse and machine shop. We’ll also begin to construct the extension to Gato. Scenery is built around the yard and then along the backdrop and we’ll build some cottonwood trees for our layout.
