Volume 4 of Railfanning With the Bednars, we railfan April 1973 to early June 1975 and the arrival of the GE U23Bs on the Valley. The U23Bs would be the last new locomotives the Valley would receive.
The third volume from the Bednar collection taken from Easton, PA to the Southern Tier of NY, Enola, Reading and Rutherford in the late 60’s/early 70’s. Footage includes many scenes of fallen flag railroading action.
Join the Bednar’s in Volume 2 as they railfan the northeastern fallen flags and other facilities between the years 1969 thru 1971. This film outing even includes the original Steamtown in Vermont.

After the fall of the Anthracite roads in 1976, the D&H continued the “Alphabet route” trains via trackage rights. We railfan former the DLW and CNJ lines.
In Volume 2 we railfan the Champlain, Saratoga and Susquehanna divisions as well as trains on the Lehigh line, former DL&W line to Binghamton and the D&H turns from 1974 to 1981.
Short lines and branch lines play a vital role in the movement of merchandise. And are often colorful railroads to follow! We look at three shorts and some branch action.
The 1980s were an exciting time in the development of the railroads and for railroad preservation. We take a look at a couple of Pennsylvania successes, the Blue Mountain & Reading and Steamtown.
Chase a DMIR train to Dock-#5 and back to Proctor. Then follow a northbound from Proctor to the Fairlane Pellet Plant. We also see the GB&W and CNW. Shot in June 1982.
The Reading Railroad was an Anthracite hauler that linked the ports and markets of Philadelphia to Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal regions. We look at Steam and Diesel freight and passenger operations from the late 40s to the mid 60s.
The events that followed the acquisition of the D&H by Guilford Transportation just a few years after these films were taken would result in the demise of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad as many once knew it.
Railfan the Conrail Pittsburgh Line for three days in June of 1985 from Cove to Cresson, Pennsylvania. We’ll see coal, mail and auto parts trains, plus Amtrak’s Broadway limited and the Pennsylvanian are also featured.

The Lehigh Valley Railroad was an Anthracite coal hauling railroad which extended from New York City to Buffalo New York. Volume 1 looks at steam and first generation diesel operations between the mid 1940’s and the mid 1960’s.
Volume 3 of Lehigh Valley’s Buffalo Division covers the Lehigh’s west end mainline operations from Sayre to Buffalo and the Niagara Branch to Suspension Bridge. Part of the program is in the cab.
