Two great railroads bisected the city of Berea, OH. To the north was the New York Central’s water level route and to the south was the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis, the Big 4. They interchanged here under the control of Berea Tower.
The Laurinburg & Southern RR runs from Laurinburg to Johns and from Laurinburg to Raeford. Interchange is with CSX on the former Seaboard Air Line in Laurinburg and the Aberdeen and Rockfish at Raeford.

Ayer, Massachusetts, was an important junction city on the Boston and Maine. It still is for the Guilford Rail system and MBTA.
“Out on the Island” – To New Yorkers, that means “Long Island.” And, unless you want to be stuck in heavy, slow traffic, getting there means riding the Long Island Rail Road. That means riding one of the LIRR’s ubiquitous multiple unit trains, perhaps transferring at Jamaica to a diesel powered train.
Alto Tower, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, controlled the former Pennsylvania Railroad’s busy four track main over the Alleghenies, including the passenger station, the sprawling shop complex, a major freight yard and access to the Hollidaysburg secondary. See this famous tower, sadly now closed, under Conrail and Norfolk Southern flags!
Amtrak’s shops at Beech Grove is the destination for a lot of equipment needing of heavy repair or major maintenance.
When the Burlington Northern spun off its ex-Frisco line from Monett, Missouri to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad was born. Much to the delight of the railfan community, they developed an all-ALCo locomotive roster. See it then, and now – with more than ALCo’s on the roster.

We get to witness Baltimore and Ohio steam locomotives running out their final years in the early ’50’s in the Cumberland, Maryland. A beautiful sight!

Visit the CN and CP in BC, in 1998! There is action in Kamloops yards and along Kamloops Lake and the Thompson and Fraser Rivers at locations such as Boston Bar, Savona and the famous twin bridges at Siska and more.
The CN and CP in the Montreal run side by side along the north bank of the St. Lawrence River. There is a lot of freight action as well as VIA passenger traffic on the CN and Montreal commuters on the CP.

In the early 1980’s, an ailing New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad was acquired by the growing Delaware Otsego Corporation. New management and a new contract meant new traffic – like stack trains!
Another in a series of cab ride videos taken over the B&A as a trainman. The action is centered on Palmer, Massachusetts. Palmer is the junction of Conrail with the Central Vermont and Mass Central.
There were a lot of great places along the Pennsylvania Railroad’s four track main over the Allegheny spine to watch and photograph trains. One of the best of those railfan locations is between downtown Altoona, (ALTO Tower) and famous Horseshoe Curve.
Conrail operated over the former Pennsylvania RR through the steel city of Johnstown, we see the action at the Amtrak Station, “C” tower and South Fork.
The former Pennsy crested the Alleghenies through tunnels between Gallitzin and Cresson. Always a favorite railfan location!

After Boston and Albany freight and passenger trains quit running the rails, it was time for New York Central trains and then Penn Central trains to ply the former B&A tracks. And then came Conrail Blue.
