Western Maryland Scenic Railroad #734 puts on a great show on a “Photo Freight Special”. The freight here is a nice string of CSX coal hoppers. With a caboose at the end. We’re heading with that load uphill, around Helmstetter’s Curve, to Frostburg, Maryland. Where we see #734 serviced including a trip on the turntable. Bonus footage of earlier days on the WMSR with first generation diesel action.

This DVD not only includes the July 1997 trip with the CSX coal hoppers, but also features some of the earlier runs performed by 734 on the WMSR, along with some early diesel action.

On a single day in July of 1997, the former Lake Superior & Ishpeming operates a Carl Franz charter trip from The CSX interchange at The hot spot of Cumberland, to the turntable at frostburg. Besides 734 which is sadly out of service due to the continuing restoration of Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-2 number 1309, some early Alco diesels are shown as an added bonus.
