1968 scenes contrast with NS and CSX modern trains: Chemicals, Grain, Containers… and, yes, still some coal. Local freights and Amtrak’s “Cardinal” offer a change of pace. Between trains, life-long Kenova native Tim Hensley helps bring the past to life, and even takes us across the big bridge -in the cab of J #611!
Steam giants on 9 railroads across America from the 1930s to the 1950s in, for the time, rare Widescreen format. B&O, Western Maryland, C&O, N&W, D&RGW, DM&IR, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific and big logging mallets.
We explore the Grand Trunk’s Berlin Subdivision in New Hampshire. This historic footage was shot in the last four years of GT/CN ownership. We’ll follow the complete daily train schedule with loads rolling along the Androscoggin River, crossing the Wild River, rolling along highways and cruising at track speed on this jointed rail mainline. The daily turn, Train 398 to the Central Vermont interchange, in an interesting job.
New shortline St. Lawrence and Atlantic took over the route in 1989. Finally we follow one of the first SL&A trains with leased CV and GTW power.
An epic railfan trip covering 19 days and 7 states. Action on both class 1 carriers and shortlines. We’ll see F-units on the B&LE, high speed intermodal on the Santa Fe, a cab ride at the Monticello Railroad Museum and chase a BL2 on the WICT from Janesville to the Chicago area.
Railroad action is in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa. Steam is on the menu too, with NKP 765, N&W 1218, and Reading 2102 running in front of our cameras! From the camera of Art Purchase, Summer of 1991.
