If you like steam locomotives, then seeing steam in the winter season is a treat, with the snow, and cold winter days with steam billowing everywhere! You’ll visit 5 steam railroads and see some special winter operations. Your winter railroading spectacular includes: The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad: Travel to Colorado and one of the premier steam railroads in the USA. See 2-8-2 #473 pulling the regular passenger train, as well as heading a special freight run up the Animas Canyon, all in the dead of winter!
Heber Valley Railroad: Visit the stunning Wasatch Mountains of Utah where 2-8-0 #618 blasts through a winter paradise with mountain peaks and placid lakes. New Hope & Ivyland: Watch as 2-8-0 #40 pulls a mixed train with clear blue skies and lots of billowing steam.
Nevada Northern: Enjoy winter action with 4-6-0 #40 and 2-8-0 #93 on both freight and passenger trains, including a double-headed freight train with BOTH locomotives pulling! Western Maryland Scenic: Fantastic steam action as 2-8-0 #734 demonstrates what a pusher locomotive was all about!. See 734 shoving hard on the rear of a freight train in the mountains of Western Maryland!

Winter railroading is always exciting to see. This video does a fine job showing the different steam trains working, showing their stuff, hearing the power work. A great video to own

Well the D&S segment was the first one to shot in wide screen format, while the rest are full screen. 3 Western Railroads have Snow on the ground & everywhere, While the 2 Eastern Railroads Have A Snowless winter. Excellent Footage & Narration From Les Jarrett Himself, But it’s a shame that none of us would hear 734’s whistle during pusher service at the time, since the engine is gone for a big disassembly to pieces for the FRA inspection. Who knows what would happen in the future that when mountain thunder gets re-assembled again, along with C&O 1309, Doubleheaded steam will return to the Cumberland-Frostburg line, just 70 years after steam on the real WM eventually ended.
