Well it’s gone. 1997 really was the last winter for Southern Pacific’s Tennessee Pass and what a pity it had to close.

Well it’s gone. This really was the last winter for Southern Pacific’s Tennessee Pass and what a pity it had to close. Shot in January 1997 with lots of snow and sunshine and superb scenery. The scenery is just magnificent, the trains are working hard, and the sight and sound of 4 head end ACs, 4 AC swing helpers and 2 AC’s on the rear of a mammoth coal train grinding through the double S-curves at Mitchell is an unforgettable experience. This program received great reviews in “Railfan & Railroad” & “Trains” Magazine.

Tennessee Pass’ last year in service is well-documented, and this program is the grand finale. We see big freight trains tackling the Pass for one last time, all in the spectacular, snowy scenery of the Rockies. This is one to add to your collection for sure!

One of Highball’s finest! The scenery is breathtaking, the trains are working hard (ten locomotives on a coal train?!), the winter sunlight is glorious, and the cold and snow add a new dimension to the sound of the trains. Expect Highball’s usual excellent videography in conditions that must have been as challenging for photographers as they were for train crews. This is a program any railfan will enjoy; if you’re at all nostalgic about Tennessee Pass or the Southern Pacific, it’s a “must have”!

Tennessee Pass is gone. No more railroad action to be seen. So what a great final tribute to the Pass with this video. Lots of heavy trains working hard to get the product to market. The scenery is stunning. The deep pass makes for great sounds of the trains. The deep snow adds to the challenge the railroad crews had to deal with. Sad that it is over and gone into history, but great that we have this video to remember it.

IN THIS FILM IT SAYS THAT THIS IS THE LAST TIME IN THE WINTER YOU WILL SEE THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC ON THE TENNESSEE PASS WITH ALL THE SNOW COVERED MOUNTAINS. SHOT IN 1997 YOU SEE LOTS OF SNOW AND SUNSHINE AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. TO SEE THE TRAINS WORKING HARD IS JUST INCREDIBLE. THE WOUNDS OF TRAIN WHISTLES ECHOING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS IS JUST AWESOME. GREAT FILM FOR THE MONEY WITH A 5 STAR RATING AND 2 HOURS LONG.
