Kicking Horse Pass is Canadian Pacific’s crossing of the Canadian Rockies. It’s February in the Canadian Rockies, with chest-deep snow, truly stunning scenery – and “action red” SD40-2’s. What more could you ask for? See CP’s transcontinental mainline from Golden BC through the Kicking Horse Valley, the Spiral Tunnels, over Kicking Horse Pass and down to Banff. The Rockies are absolutely magnificent and are right in your face, and Morant’s Curve has to be one of the most spectacular locations on the continent.

The beauty of Kicking Horse Pass in winter is enough to make this a “must have” video; add the sight and sound of hardworking trains, and you’ve got one of Highball’s best! Videography is second-to-none, with spectacular scenes of trains battling grades, curves and Mother Nature through some of Canada’s most well-known railfan locations. The video was shot more than twenty years ago, but this program has only gotten better with time!

  2. Lloyd

This is awesome winter railroading. The CPR through the heart of the fabulous Rocky Mountains in a time that railroading is such a challenge. Better yet…. in this video, the SD40-2’s are nearing their end and we get to see history before the next generation of heavy diesels takes over. The scenery is the best in North America, and Highball took the challenge of getting it on tape in the winter. Excellent work. Excellent video.

  3. Alan Scott

What a far out movie. So much action, so much snow, and the curvebis awesome. The scenery is jjust breath taking, and getting to see the sd40-2 was great. The 645 is awesome too. Great movie for the price.

  4. TrainboySD40-2

Not much changes on Kicking Horse. The trees get a little higher, the trains get a little longer – but in 1999, though few knew it, the era of SD40-2s was about to abruptly come to a close. Big GEs came in shortly after, and this video preserves the bass roar of the 645.
