Travel to scenic Alaska, British Columbia and Yukon aboard the trains of the White Pass & Yukon Route. In this program:
Experience being on board the train, trackside, and in the locomotive cab as the train climbs from sea level in Skagway, Alaska, to an elevation of 2,864 feet at White Pass, only 20 miles away!

Watch as the train clings to the side of the mountain and dives through tunnels. To see the rest of the line’s operation, you will ride the train out of Carcross, Yukon as it goes along the shores of beautiful Bennett Lake, then climbs Fraser Hill to Fraser, British Columbia.

Enjoy scenes of the 2-8-2 steam locomotive #73 in action. Relive your Alaska vacation, or plan a new one, with this beautiful program. There’s something for everyone!

We purchased this DVD in Skagway on our vacation to Alaska in 2007. Unfortunately, we never had the opportunity to actually ride the White Pass & Yukon while we were there.. Just wasn’t enough time before our cruise ship departed port… This program is a pretty decent “basic overview” of what it is like to ride this world-famous tourist line. Certainly wish there was more to it. There are probably a couple more documentaries out there which give a more “in-depth” look at the railroad. Maybe on PBS? Who knows…

As an updated sequel to the 2007 version, this made in 2016 only title, contains more footages that was never shown in the 40 minute video, that concludes with Steam locomotive 73 on a one day only photo Freight Special. This program like some of Les’ titles are still on Amazon’s Instant prime on the go video service. And Yes, he did do a good job narrating this 2016 only program.
