In the heart of America there is a super-highway paved with steel running between North Platte and Gibbon Junction, Nebraska. It is known as the Kearney Subdivision and historically it has seen well over 100 trains per day. Traffic may be down from the line’s heyday in the early and mid-2000s, yet this is still a fantastic place to watch trains.
This program begins with a nighttime visit to the Golden Spike Tower as a summertime thunderstorm lights up Bailey Yard. We then turn east through Maxwell, the Buttermilk Curves, Gothenburg, Lexington, Kearney, Gibbon Junction, and many other noted locations before wrapping up at the BNSF flyover at Grand Island.
Dominating the scene are monster double-coal trains that measure up to three miles in length, running to and from Wyoming’s Powder River Basin. In addition to coal are mixed manifests, hot-shot intermodals, and locals that service industry found along the route. Along with cameras on the ground, aerial coverage of the Buttermilk Curves and Gibbon Junction gives a whole new perspective to this amazing line. Shot in beautiful 4K!

In this sequel to the 2-part Sidney Subdivision series that was filmed in early August of 2021, there are lots & lots of diesels as well as Big Boy 4014 on its 80th birthday trip to New Orleans Louisiana from Cheyenne Wyoming which is the very first time in US Railroading history that a steam engine is equipped with Positive Train Control.
Locations include Bailey Yard in North Platte with the Golden Spike Tower in a Lightning Storm as well as a mention of the 1995 Guiness Book of World Records, plus a time-lapse of the hump yards, Keith, East Keith, Maxwell, Pawnee, Brady’s Buttermilk Bends, Gothenburg in a lightning storm at night, Willow Island with raining coal dust coming from the hoppers, Cozad with a caboose & station on display, Darr, Lexington that was named Plum Creek at one time, Overton, Elm Creek, with a Bay Window Caboose in the middle, Agrex, Odessa, Kearney with the Trails & Rails Museum that has a depot from Shelton & 2-8-0 481 on display, Gibbon Wye with the Marysville Sub, Shelton, Wood River, & Grand Island Nebraska.
Aside from UP, other road names include BNSF, SP, NS, NJRX with a former Southern SD20, CSX, Nebraska Central with former BN SD40-2s, & others at the Wood River Grain Elevator.
Coverage east to North Platte from Cheyenne can be found on the Sidney Sub 2 part set.

7idea did a wonderful job with this program. Audio and narration sound great, video and camera work is great as well. Narration gives insight into the towns and areas filmed, train symbols or train destinations and gives location info by mile marker making it easy to follow along.

This was an awesome video to watch with many freight trains operating on the triple track. The coal trains were great with many hoppers as well the many intermodals and Manifests, I also like seeing UP Big Boy 4014 running on the mainline as well the BNSF flyover. Highly recommended to any train buff.
