Then you’ll go along with him as he spends a good part of a year chasing that well known Northern type steam engine 8444 in his story called ‘The Year of the 8444’ The Northern interfaces with many of the U.P. crack ‘City’ trains and freights as well!

    Made in 1991, part 1 of volume 1 contains tons of great diesel action with Turbines & some steamers like Challengers & Northerns at locations like Denver Union Station in Colorado with other road names like Burlington, Missouri Pacific, & Rio Grande, Route 66 between Daggett & Barstow California, St. Mary’s Kansas near route 24, Chicago with Norfolk & Western’s Wabash Cannonball, North Liberty Iowa with Cedar Rapids & Iowa City, Fremont Nebraska, North Bend, Schuyler with a time-lapse, US route 30 at Columbus, Silver Creek with a pace of Turbine 11 on a freight, Central City, Grand Island with the CB&Q, Wood River, the hot spot of Gibbon, Kearney, Overton, Kimball, Pine Bluffs Wyoming, Egbert, Archer Hill, Cheyenne, Laramie, Rock River, Sinclair with a CB&Q GP30, Green River, Echo Canyon, Morgan Utah, Silver Bow Idaho, the Golden Spike Monument at Council Bluffs with an Alco C-855, Valley with a quartet of cabooses on the rear of the same freight, Sidney, Buttermilk Curve at Brady before the mainline was upgraded to Triple Track, MP 277 near Bailey Yard in North Platte, Ogalala with 4 more cabooses on the rear of the same freight, Julesburg with Frisco, Seaboard, & CB&Q, Point of Rock at Potter, Bushnell, Hillsdale, & ends at Sherman Hill in a Sunset while part 2 of volume 1 contains the living legend itself: never retired 4-8-4 number 844 back when it was renumbered to 8444 between 1962 & late May of 1989.

    Some scenes of this first volume was later shown in parts 2 & 3 of the Top Frog Series with 844/4, & also for part 5 of the Top Frog collection with early diesels.

    This two-disc set features Union Pacific from the end of steam to the mid-sixties. You’ll see freight and passenger trains, and and whole segment dedicated to the “Living Legend”, 4-8-4 #8444.
