All aboard for a look at a time when Union Pacific and Southern Pacific trains ran side by side on two lines into St. Louis in Missouri and Illinois.S.P. subsidiary St. Louis Southwestern gained trackage rights over the Jefferson City Subdivision as part of the U.P.’s approval to acquire the Missouri Pacific in 1982. Locations visited on this line include Kirkwood, Valley Park, Castlewood and Gray Summit. S.S.W. trains ran over the Chester Subdivision in Illinois since the early 20th Century, as part of a joint deal where MoPac trains also used S.S.W. owned trackage in Missouri. Locations seen on this line include Dupo, Gorham, Johns Spur, Reynoldsville and Thebes.
br>This program was filmed during a period of variety, when locomotives and cabooses painted for MoPac, M-K-T and Denver & Rio Grande Western were still common. S.P. Kodachrome and yellow MoPac units are also seen. It was certainly an era of variety never to be repeated! 1 hour and 55 minutes Copyright 2018. DVD-R only

In this installment of the Diverging Clear Productions Heritage series, there are a parade of diesels on not only Union Pacific & Cotton Belt, but also other road names like Wisconsin Central, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Missouri Kansas Texas, Amtrak’s River Cities with F40s, Santa Fe, Conrail, Rio Grande, General Motors, & Chicago & Northwestern.

The footages were filmed in January to November of 1989, February to May of 1990, January of 1991, November of 1993, March of 1992, February of ’91, August of ’92, April of ’92, & September of ’92.

Locations include Kirkwood Missouri depot (home of the nearby National Museum of Transportation where Frisco 1522 operated excursions from 1988 to 2002), Valley Park, Castlewood, Gray Summit Tunnel, Dupo Illinois, Chester IL, Gorham, John’s Spur, Grand Tower, Aldridge, Reynoldsville, McClure, Gale, & Thebes.

All in all, Mary McPherson did a decent job narrating this nearly 2 hour show.
