At the border of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in Southern California lies one of the most interesting and scenic mountain passes in the Southwest. Some call it Banning Pass or San Gorgonio Pass, but most railfans simply refer to it as Beaumont Hill. Pentrex is pleased to present complete coverage of Beaumont Hill from West Colton to Indio in six hours of pounding, railroading action! Although it peaks at only 2,591 feet above sea level, Beaumont Hill still presents sufficient hardship to rival taller passes. Flanked by Mount San Gorgonio to the north and Mount San Jacinto to the south, it has a beautiful charm all its own. Known now as UP’s Yuma Subdivision, the 76-mile line is mostly double-tracked and busier than ever.

In addition to Union Pacific, you’ll see engines from Ferromex, NS, CSX, BNSF, CEFX, GCFX, plus survivors from C&NW, Rio Grande and SP – and those are just the units we captured on the point! You’ll also see the SP, MKT, Mopac and WP Heritage units. Many engine models are represented, ranging from the SD38-2 to the newest SD70ACe and Dash 840C to the mighty GEVO. We even caught a rare GP15-1 in double stack service! Autos, lumber, and intermodal trains dominate the line. The “Rock Train” and Amtrak’s Sunset Limited are well covered and UP’s Centennial 6936 is seen pulling many passenger specials. There’s much more to see in this unending parade of dazzling color, open throttles, squealing brakes, and serpentine curves!

Over five years in the making, across the four seasons, under broiling summer sun and snow on the Pass, through windstorms and sandstorms, from dawn to dusk, this is the Ultimate Beaumont Hill!

It’s a great video. There is a ton of engines that Union Pacific doesn’t use anymore that are In this video.

California in general is a hot location for trains. With famous locations like Donner Pass, Cajon Pass, Tehachapi Loop, and Beaumont Hill. The Ultimate Beaumont Hill is no disappointment. Long trains, with heavy horsepower, multiple engine lashups, the most modern engines made like the GEVO’s and SD70Mac’s, combined with the old reliable SD40-2’s all make many appearances. Almost every mainline North American company, including lease units and some fallen flags, can be seen from Mexico to Canada makes it’s way across the line. Amtrak also makes a number of appearances throughout the video. Many meets and and trains passing each other are witnessed. Combined with some awesome scenery of southern California, and You have one of the finest videos made. Pentrex holds nothing back and treats us to a fantasic show of power, excellent train viewing, and even some historical stories of the railroads of the region. This video is truly a “must have”.

Wow! 6 hours long, but worth every minute. Starting at West Colton and working the way east to Indio with lots of action, colorful lashups and some interesting facts pointed out along the way. I was not expecting this to be as great as it was. Included is a map of the rail line from the Sonrisa California Timetable booklet which are handy when chasing trains, which I frequently do. This is well worth it.

I am not a UP fan at heart but I thought this one looked good, the preview made it look like it had a lot of variety, but that variety is spread out deep into a lot of the same old UP… which isn’t bad, just like the ultimate cajon, it just gets boring very quickly and isn’t made into an interesting or insightful show. just like ultimate cajon it gets stagnant.
