The rail network in the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota hosts key routes to and from Chicago, Kansas City, ports in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. BNSF, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National and Union Pacific are the major players here. Many trains travel through the area, but the most unique trains are led with EMD locomotives. Most of which no longer exist or are on their way to retirement. In the next two hours, you will be treated to some phenomenal trains! Volume 1 of Twin Cities Mainline EMDs covers the BNSF’s St. Paul and Midway Subdivisions. The St. Paul Sub is a combination of former CB&Q, Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Road routes from St. Croix Tower near Hastings, Minnesota to University Junction which is adjacent to Northtown Yard in Minneapolis. This line also hosts traffic from the Canadian Pacific, Union Pacific, and Twin Cities and Western. The Midway Subdivision is a former Great Northern Route that has access to an intermodal facility at BNSF’s Midway Yard and has a connection to the Minnesota Commercial. It is also a main route for eastbound CP trains to access St. Paul Yard from the Paynesville Sub that runs west out of the Twin Cities. Union Pacific also uses this line for access to its East Minneapolis Yard. Some of this footage was captured during the North Dakota oil boom years, which resulted in all railroads using whatever they had to keep up with demand. There were so many different EMD models that we captured from the years 2012 to 2023, you’ll have to watch to believe it! If you are a fan of the Twin Cities rail scene, and EMD locomotives, you must have Twin Cities Mainline EMDs, Volume 1 in your collection!
