The Iowa Interstate Railroad is a large Midwest regional running 470 miles over former Rock Island trackage from Chicago, Illinois to Council Bluffs, Iowa. This late 1990s look at the IAIS shows a fascinating variety of early diesels from EMD and ALCO to transport their trains of unit grain, intermodal, and mixed freight. Including: GP 7, 8, 9, 10, 16 & 38, SD20, SW1200, RS36, C420, and M420s. This exciting show features both switching and road freights. You’ll see many towns, grain elevators, ex-Rock Island depots and beautiful Iowa and Illinois scenery.

Also the Iowa Interstate’s connecting railroads are briefly shown including the Crandic and the P&PU. Each Plets Express DVD comes with a map and additional information to make it easy and enjoyable to follow along with the program.

If you are an Iowa Interstate fan, this better be in your collection! Best IAIS program out there, pre 700 GP38’s and GEVO’s, relive the glory days of 567’s in notch 8.

  2. Dan

Midwest railroading at its best! As always, Plets Express’ videography is flawless, capturing trains of the Iowa Interstate and its fleet of handsome older locomotives in settings that are beautiful in their simplicity — prairies, small towns, grain elevators and vintage depots. The narration is filled with helpful information about the railroad and the region and its history. Don’t expect high-speed double-stacks or rugged mountain passes … just a five-star look at a fascinating Midwest regional.
