The Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railway was affectionately known as the “J”. It formed a 170 mile arc around the city of Chicago. This action packed DVD video features plenty of exciting EJ&E railroad footage from across the entire system. Starting at Joliet, you’ll see mainline freights and unit trains working northeast to Waukegan and southeast to Gary. In Joliet SW1200 switchers and ex-Missabe SDM’s are busy working the large yard. A few locals are seen going south over the river line to East Morris and these trains even operate with a caboose! Many historic structures still remain on the “J” and we’ll travel by a total of 15 towers, depots and shop buildings. Plus the EJ&E also crosses every major railroad in Chicago – 16 in all!

The trains themselves are fascinating and often surprising, but the beauty of this program is in the detail … the towers, the connecting railroads, the setting and the history. This is urban/suburban railroading at its best, and no program about the EJ&E would be complete without a perspective on the important role “The J” plays in the larger Chicago-area rail picture. Plets Express does a remarkable job explaining that role through exceptional videography and narration. And at the same time, it’s just plain fun! You can’t go wrong with “Trains Of The Elgin Joliet & Eastern”.

A big fan of Plets Express as his videos are put together nicely. Plets Expres really did their research on these productions. I recommend any Plets Videos if you like informative Narration and good picture quality.
