At Boonville, Indiana, two coal hauling railroads share the same trackage; The Yankeetown Dock Railroad and Peabody’s Squaw Creek Railroad. In Part 1 of Boonville Delights, we take a look at the busier Yankeetown Dock Railroad. Filmed in late 1987 and early 1988, the railroad rostered 6 locomotives, 3 Fairbanks-Morse H-12-44’s used to dump the coal and three EMD SD38-2’s to handle the road jobs and bring loads to the dumper.
In this program, we take a look at the H-12-44’s shoving cars through the dumper and then follow a couple of road jobs to the AMAX Ayrshire Mine north of Boonville. We then conclude the program with a ride in the cab of SD38-2 #21 from the engine house down to the holding yard to pick up 30 loads for the dumper. This is Volume 5 in the George Redmond Railfanning series.
NOTE: No narration. This is vintage eighties footage, shot using equipment of the time. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes of long-gone railroads and equipment.
