Built to tap the rich farmlands in this region of the country, it also provides a link with parent company CP Rail for traffic moving to and from western Canada. Soo power is predominant, in lashups with units from CP Rail, Helm, GATX, and M-K. Locations visited include Daytons Bluffs, Humboldt Yard, Buffalo, Glenwood, Thief River Falls, Hankinson, Valley City, Kensal, Harvey, Minot, Kenmare, Bowbells, Portal, and many more!

Portal North Dakota…. Gateway to western Canada on the Canadian Pacific Railroad & SOO Line in North Dakota & Minnesota. Really great video work here as we see some awesome action . Noyes Minnesota is also a fine location to railfan as the trains travel into & from Manitoba Canada. Not quite as busy as Portal ND., but still an important international rail crossing. Minot ND. is a diamond with today’s BNSF, so there is also a lot of enjoyment to be had . This video does a really fine job covering the territory of the SOO Line from Minneapolis north. Fantastic show.

A very well done, comprehensive look at the once mighty Soo Line. The second part of Clear Block’s exceptional three-volume set showcases the Soo Line from the Twin Cities to Portal, North Dakota and Noyes, Minnesota. Most of the line is prairie railroading, and Clear Block does a nice job capturing the “feel” of the setting … small towns, grain elevators and wide open spaces. You’ll see a nice sampling of the Soo Line’s locomotive roster pulling mainly manifest and grain trains. The videography is well done, and does a nice job showing scenic highlights as well as the trains. The first volume in the series follows the Soo Line from Chicago and Milwaukee to the Twin Cities, and Volume 3 follows the Kansas City and Louisville lines. Together, they make a great look back at the Soo!

I love the SOO and this video is pure soo line power. It must have been an interesting time to watch trains. Excellent video with very informative narration. As always, Clear Block put this video together nicely. Its a shame there were not more Clear Block videos.
