Lee Avis shot the PRSL main line between Philadelphia and Cape May, and around Atlantic City in the 1950s. This is rare footage now brought to you edited and professionally transferred to DVD. We’ll see passenger trains, freight trains and some shop and switching footage – including a 0-8-0 tank engine “Reading Locomotive Works Shop Switcher”. Color footage of PRSL steam in the 1950s is rare!
Most of the DVD is steam, there are a few First Generation diesels here too. A brief caboose ride on a local gives us some idea of day-to-day railroading in the 1950s. This was shot in silent 8mm and that is how it comes to you, backed with music, as silent “film” now on DVD. No narration.

This DVD features steam engines from both the PRR and RDG as they pull both freight and passenger trains along this jointly-owned railroad line.

If you grew up in New Jersey or just visited and spent some time thereas a child and remember the fantastic railroads of the time this video is a must have for your collection. It is wonderfully photographed and a pure pleasure to watch over and over again.
