It took ten years to record the story of the Royal Gorge Route over the now-closed Tennessee Pass. Built by the Denver and Rio Grande between 1874 and 1887 as a narrow gauge railroad and later converted to standard gauge, this dramatic crossing of the Rockies would operate for 110 years!

In the MOI version of the final months of action on both Tennessee Pass & the Royal Gorge Route in 1997, there are a huge variety of diesels on not only the Rio Grande, but also Southern Pacific, Conrail, Santa Fe, Cotton Belt, GECX, & Burlington Northern.
Locations include Minturn, the hanging bridge under the suspension bridge, Parkdale, Texas Creek, Codapaxi, Valley, Red Hill Tunnel, Salida, Canyon Siding, Buena Vista, Americus, Princeton, Yale, Granite, Cove, Elvis Peak, Malta, Leadville, the Summit of the pass through the tunnel, Mitchell, Thene Tunnel, Pando, Eagle River, & Belden.
This is one of the few MOI titles to be narrated by Mike Botula.
Aside from the footage of the mainline itself as well as a cab ride, there are also lots & lots of historic still images (some from Richard Kindig) from steam engines with narrow gauge Wood burners to articulated 2-8-8-2s to early F units in streamliner service, as well as blueprints of the hanging bridge itself.
Today the portion between Canon City & Parkdale has since been quickly transformed into a tourist railroad.
