“Rugged” doesn’t even begin to describe Stampede Pass. The legendary mainline of the Northern Pacific Railroad is back in action following a decade of slumber. Now it is the Burlington Northern Santa Fe taking on the 2.2% grades over the Cascades with Dash-9s and SD-40s. Machines Of Iron offers you a first look as BNSF gets its footing on the line with new signaling and experimental DPU trains. The Return of Stampede Pass brings you all the grandeur of this magnificent engineering achievement.

Photographed after the BNSF merger in September of 1995, this MOI title chronicles a comprehensive look at the Cascade Mountains of Washington State with lots of great diesel action.

Aside from BNSF, as well as fallen flags like Burlington Northern for instance, other road names include LMX, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Cargill Shortline, & Illinois Central.

Locations include Yakima Yard & the namesake river canyon which is the same route that SP 4449 & SP&S 700 traveled through the single-track line in October of 1990, Pomona Siding, Thrall, Ellensburg at MP 0, MP 12, Cle Ellum, MP 4.7, Tunnel 2 at Martin, Stampede Tunnel, Sumner, Auburn with Northern Pacific Rotary Snowplow 10 on display, MP 91.50, Test Mile 88, Seattle, Easton, West Fork, Palmer Junction, Ravensdale with a cab ride in the rain, & Bristol.

There is also an Interview with Mt. Rainier Scenic Employee Tim Daubert talking about Stampede tunnel, as well as Donald Hoyt of Cargill.

While most MOI titles were narrated by NKP 765 Engineer Rich Melvin, this is one of the few titles to be narrated by Mike Botula while the scenes were shot by Rob Simpson of Golden Rail Video.
