In this installment of the Trains Magazine’s Journey to Promontory DVD series which was filmed years before the very first excursion trips of Big Boy 4014, there are lots of great diesels on America’s Superpower Railroads with narration from Kevin Keffe that also has some historic still images.

Locations include Omaha with Big Boy 4023 & Centennial unit 6900 on display at Kenefick Park near the Iowa Nebraska state line as well as 10-wheeler 1243 also on display, Fremont, Grand Island, Gibbon, Kearney, Cozad, Buttermilk Curve at Brady with a cameo from 844 heading to Memphis Tennessee in 2016, Bailey Yard at North Platte home of the Golden Spike Tower, Sutherland, Paxton, Ogalalla, Bertsburg west of Big Springs, Julesburg Colorado, Potter, Archer Hill, Cheyenne, Granite Canyon, Ames monument at Sherman, Dale Junction, Hermosa, Rock River, Table Rock, Point of Rocks, Rock Springs, Green River, Peru Hill, Leroy, Curvo with a bridge & 2 tunnels, Weber Canyon, Devil’s Slide with 1000 mile tree, Echo Canyon, Ogden Union Depot Museum, Lakeside on the Great Salt Lake, the Golden Spike National Historic Site at Promontory summit, the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Colfax, Alta, Blue Canyon, Yuba Pass with Tunnel 35, the summit of Donner Pass with Tunnel 41, Truckee, Polaris, Floriston, Reno, Painted Rock, Elko, Osino, Wells, & Montello.

Other road names include Amtrak, CSX, Southern Pacific, Norfolk Southern, HLCX, BNSF, & Rio Grande.

Interviews with Bill Stephens, Jim Ehrenberger, Scott Moore, Richard Carroll, Kyle Wyatt, & Phil Sexton, plus the late Jim Wrinn are also featured.

This is a fun tour of the UP’s line from coast to coast, with some great history too!

This video was great but I wish there was more coverage on the Golden Spike route. I was very fortunate to visit the most 2 memorable locations in Utah 2019 and it was the greatest excursion trip ever. Ogden and Promontory Summit were the two locations for the 150 celebration and it’s great to learn the history of the transcontinental railroad. Kevin Keefe narrated the story of the famous route with special guests on hand.

Kevin Keefe is perfect for the video and this video shows you the route of the original transcontinental railroad. I visit Ogden Union station and the Promontory Summit one time and it was the most memorable event. Wish the history was a bit longer but I enjoyed it.

Another fine production for us to enjoy. From Nebraska west on the Union Pacific, we are treated to some of the finest railfan locations on the route. Union Pacific puts up a great show of heavy long trains from coal & intermodal to general manifest. I think my favorite location is Sherman Hill where the trains have to really work hard. Great video. To bad it is not a bit longer, but still excellent.
