The Gettysburg Railroad

This program features the Gettyburg’s ex-Mississippian 2-8-0 consolidation number 76. Built in 1920 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, you’ll see number 76 switching the Gettysburg yard, then hop on board for a special excursion run to Mount Holly Springs, PA and back.

From the time you leave the station ‘til the time you return, you’ll enjoy the clickety-clack of steel wheels on steel rails and the bark of exhaust as number 76 fills the air with a beautiful display of sight and sound.

The Knox & Kane Story

You will enjoy this steam trip through the central Pennsylvania Allegheny forest and across the massive Kinzua Viaduct, which was once the highest railroad bridge in the world. You’ll also see a brand-new steam locomotive, SY-class 2-8-2 No. 1658M, from the Tangshan Shops in China.

When railfans think of the state of Pennsylvania, they think of the Strasburg Railroad, the East Broad Top Narrow Gauge, Steamtown in Scranton, the Hot Spot of Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, the New Hope & Ivyland, the Reading & Northern, Williams Grove in Mechanicsburg, the Everett railroad, Middletown & Hummelstown, & busy mainline freights & Amtrak between Pittsburgh to the West, & Philadelphia to the east. But in this 90 minute 2-in-1 Combo, there are 2 tourist railroads in the keystone state that have since been gone for good: Gettysburg, & the Knox & Kane.

While the 2 tourist lines have since been historic, the steam stars in this combo DVD have been thankfully preserved at other locations: Mississippian 76 is at the Oakland B&O Museum, Canadian Pacific 1278 (the steam engine well known for its boiler explosion in 1995) is at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugar Creek Ohio, Canadian National 3254 is still at Steamtown, Chinese Mikado 1658 is at the Valley Railroad in Essex Connecticut as New Haven 3025, & Huntington & Broad Top 38 is at the Everett railroad in Duncansville awaiting to be restored to operational condition.

The Gettysburg portion of the combo from 1989 ran for 30 minutes & was narrated by Joe Cali who also narrated the Berkshire version of the Frisco 1522 revival from 1988: the Frisco Filly, while the Knox & Kane Portion of the Combo from 1990/1991 ran for a full hour & was narrated by Dan Bradford.
