The busiest Canadian transcontinental railway link between British Columbia and the eastern provinces follows the ruggedly beautiful banks of the Thompson and Fraser Rivers. There, Canadian Pacific and Canadian National railways operate over 60 trains each day, hauling unit coal, intermodal, grain, sulfur, lumber, and mixed freights.

Take a video journey along the Fraser Canyon Route from Kamloops to Yale and enjoy nonstop railroading action along the way. You’ll see a variety of modern GMD and GE locomotives heading up train after heavy train. CN and CO tracks parallel each other on opposite banks of the canyon for much of the route, occasionally making dramatic crossings and switching sides. Concrete sheds are needed at several points to protect the tracks from dangerous snowslides and rockfalls. You’ll see all the famous locations: Savona, Ashcroft, Spence’s Bridge, Cisco Banks, Lytton, North Bend, Boston Bar, Hell’s Gate, and Yale.

Enjoy the unusual sights of a rail grinder at work and a self-propelled crane. You’ll ride inside a locomotive, watching the engineer at the throttle and experiencing the spectacular view from the cab. There are fantastic scenes of turbulent waters, sheer mountainsides, blue skies, and the roar and squeal of the trains. For glorious Canadian scenery and the excitement of mainline railroading, there’s nothing like the Fraser Canyon Route. This Pentrex Classic presentation has been remastered, color corrected and digitally repaired.

Good video. Has a lot of great footage. The scenes and camera work is beyond amazing.

The show starts with the beautiful scenery of the 2 bridges, a camp, an extremely old 1808 photograph of Simon Fraser, as well as more scenes of the mountains, and muddy waters. Not to mention rocks and cliffs. Followed by a 3 unit freight leaving the tunnel and over the muddy waters. A look at the 2 block signal is shown. Next a wide look at Kamloops BC. Starting with CP’s yard as a 2 unit lash up is stopping for a crew change, then comes chopped nosed GP9R 1579 waiting to move back and forth around the yard. With a fresh crew about, the loaded train gets underway. Across the Thompson river, an eastbound CN train slows down and stops at a red signal for a meet at an S curve. This westbound mixed train is being led by engine 2436, and it’s unidentified sister unit. From Boston Bar to Yale, a cab ride is included. Leaving the yard we hear some commentary from the crew – which continues throughout the segment. Our unit leaves one of the rock sheds, and passes by the air tram cables. Then it enters and exits another tunnel, then another, and it also passes by the siding. The locomotive that the camera crew rode in the cab is GF-638B #5543. The program comes to a close as a 3 unit lash up leaves the 1908 tunnel on the CP line!
