The Silverton is photographed as never before: from the cab, the pilot, and track speeders racing in front of the engine. The entire high line where the rails cling to the canyon walls far above the chasm is shot from helicopters. Roundhouse, turntable, this DVD has it all! In part 1, a single engine travels from Durango to Cascade Tank. Part 2 features a doubleheader with freight cars. This film covers almost the entire line with 49 run pasts, aerials and chase sequences.
Narration. Sunday River Productions programs may feature Color film, B&W film, Music, Dubbed Sound and still photos.

Originally released in 1983, this program covers everyday life on the D&RGW branch between the 2 namesake cities. All 3 K28 class 2-8-2s built by Alco in 1923 are shown: 473 (since converted to oil), 476 (retired from 1999-2016 but was restored & converted to oil in recent years), & 478 (hasn’t been operational since 2016), as they roll through downtown Durango, the Animas River Bridges, Home Ranch, crossing highway 550 a couple of times, Hermosa Creek & Water tower, Elbert Creek Canyon, the High Line over the Animas River, Rockwood cut, Cascade Wye, Tank Creek, Tacoma, Needleton water tower, Elk Park Wye, & of course Silverton.
Aside from the ground as well as from onboard the train, there are some Helicopter angles as well as a mention of the 1950 film: Ticket to Tomahawk that also has RGS 10-wheeler number 20 disguised as the Emma Sweeney. K-36 number 481 appears near the end of the program.

I have quite a few videos of this line, which has always been one of my favorites. If I could only keep one DVD, it would be this one. It’s only 28 minutes long, but includes a wonderful mix of shots from a number of viewpoints. The helicopter footage of a train negotiating the High Line from end to end in simply superb – the best look at this remarkable feat of engineering that I’ve ever seen. A winner – very highly recommended!

What a great Dvd about the Silverton Narrow Gauge. Seeing how the train runs, from the cab and the pilot… and what is cool is the speeder which goes in front of the train to check out the tracks. This program is well worth the money.

Here again a great Dvd. When you see this train from a far it looks small but up close it is massive. It talks about the track speeders that go in front of the train to get stuff of the tracks before the train gets there. This is a great film about the train and how it runs from the cab, the pilot to the speeder in front of the train. Worth the money.
