In the middle of September we ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad between both those towns in the Colorado Rockies. Located near the four corners region of Southwestern Colorado this 45 mile former branch line of the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad has operated continually since 1882. Today we ride in the glass- topped premium car, the “Knight Sky”, and we capture for you the majority of the highlights along the journey. With great views through the windows and ceiling one can see pretty well. However, we shot most of the footage from the end platforms where the view is better and allows us to see not only the scenery but the engine and train ahead of us in the scenery. There are great views looking along the highline cliff, down into the Animas Gorge, crossing High Bridge, and following the Animas River close enough you can hear the roaring rapids. Our locomotive is K-36 2-8-2 number 480 for this journey.
Maps and narration along with screen titles give you locations and points of interest along the route. This famous train ride is not to be missed, and this video will let the viewer enjoy it many times over.

If you can’t afford the trip to The Durango and Silverton, why not the railroad would come to you? After all, it’ll give the home viewers an opportunity to take a ride on what it’s like to go for a ride on one of America’s most popular all steam powered tourist railroads. Some clips from the rio grande third division is included, as the view from the new coach called the night sky is interesting, as well as some changes that both of the namesake towns have been overhauled over the years. The 2015 season for Greg was known as the year of today’s Rio Grande narrow gauge. Meaning that 80% of Greg’s programs of that year, was shot in September of 2014. Overall, the picture quality is amazing as well as some of the maps that was taken from an unknown issue of Trains magazine. Like I said: if you can’t afford the trip to Colorado, why not the railroad would come to you? PS: if many of you have owned other D&S rides such as a freight train from railway productions, as well as K-36 cab ride from highball productions, this is a great way to see what it’s like in different early fall weather.

What a way to see a lot of beautiful country, but by train. This has to be the best train adventure I have ever been in. The closed in cars are great, but if you want to see all the beautiful scenery ride in an open car or at the back, the views are fantastic. All in all it is a great adventure to ride this train. I do it every time we go to Silverton.
