Organized by Trains Unlimited, this photo shoot features excellent weather, beautiful scenery and a lot of steam action! This DVD shows #18 putting on quite a good show, which you will see on some spirited run-bys. Minimal narration.

In the Highball Version of the May 2008 freight special on this short lived tourist line of the Rio Grande Standard gauge, there are service scenes of engine 18 before the Trains Unlimited Charter which was organized by Ronald Burkhard who also captured scenes of the special was seen helping out the SLRG Crew.
Recently, Ron’s footage of the LS&I consolidation in 2008, was also shown in a Greg Scholl Video title.
Locations on the line include The Alamosa shops & Station, Upper Beaman Tunnel, The S Curves at Fir, The Summit of La Veta Pass with a caboose ride from Sierra, the Rio Grande River Bridge, Walsenburg, & others.
Day 1 covers the eastbound trip to La Veta, while day 2 captures the return trip to Alamosa after camping in La Veta overnight.
In addition to number 18, there are a handful of diesels on the way: B40-8 number 8527, Former Amtrak F40 number 459, & another B40-8 number 8542.
Unfortunately due to the railroad’s owner Iowa Pacific having budget troubles, the La Veta Pass line is closed for good after the 2019 season, & today the steam star of this program is now at it’s new home: the Colebrookdale Railroad in Pennsylvania.

Watch the 18 work hard on the steep grade of La Veta Pass and listen to the engine’s bark in typical Rio Grande territory!
