Steam in the Winter treats you to winter steam railroading on three railroads! Enjoy stunning mountain scenery in the mountains of Utah on the Heber Valley Railroad, winter on the high desert on the fantastically preserved Nevada Northern Railroad, and heavy, mainline railroading on the Ohio Central System.

These “photo special”, restored, freight trains evoke memories of regular service steam long ago. If you like steam railroading, you’ll love the great steam action in this program! Enjoy 4-8-4 #6325 as she storms along the Ohio Central mainline. Thrill to the mountain vistas and 2-8-0 #618 on the Heber Valley. Step back in time as 2-8-0 #98 re-creates a mine run on the Nevada Northern.

Steam in the winter can be cold, but it can also be worth the visit. Great action here and of course a lot of steam as the steam engines do their thing. Recommended.

Originally released in 2004, this program covers not 1 not 2 but 3 steam engines operating on photo freights in lovely blankets of snow.

Among the 3 locomotives shown in this program, only Nevada Northern 93 still operates today as Grand Trunk Western 6325 hasn’t been operating since 2005 as it is still on display at the age of steam roundhouse in Sugar Creek, while Union Pacific 618 last ran on the Heber Valley in 2010 & it is still in pieces just like another 1907 Baldwin built 2-8-0: Great Western 75.

All in all, Les Jarrett did a brilliant job narrating this program.

Winter railroading is always exciting to see, steam or diesels. This video gives us an idea as to the excitement of it. Watching and hearing these majestic beauties with a snowy backdrop is great. Personally, I am not a fan of excursion steam service, it is an enjoyable video as we witness machines of history still in operation. Well done.

Enjoy several steam engines as they pull photo freights for photographers with cold temperatures and snow on the ground.

Who doesn’t love to see the smoke from a steam locomotive’s stack and cylinder-cocks brighten up a cold, snowy winter’s day with some excitement? From the East to the West, you will very much enjoy the three different steamers featured in this program “strutting their stuff” in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.

There’s nothing like seeing a steam locomotive in action in the winter season. With steam running in the winter you’ll enjoy watching photographer’s special and the smoke and steam make a good picture.

  7. NRH

Great to see steam working in below zero temperatures.
