One of the last bastions of mainline steam for the B&O Railroad was a 126 mile stretch of railroad between Garrett, Indiana and Willard, Ohio – across the flat land of Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. This program tells the story of B&O’s last years of steam in Ohio and the handover to diesel.
Steam power is dramatically presented by Don Krofta and his 16mm camera. We see Q class 2-8-2’s, P-7 class 4-6-2’s, T-1 and T-2 class 4-8-2’s, S-1 class 2-10-2’s, and M-1 class 2-8-8-4’s. You’ll see engines at many locations in northern Ohio with emphasis on freight operations. We’ll see the roundhouses at Toledo and Willard and the coal dock at Warwick. Passenger scenes include The Cincinnatian with streamlined Pacifics. Crazy good action shots, crisp 16mm film, 50/50 color and B&W. Volume 1 of a 2 volume series.
