One of the best Trains Mag programs I’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing. This show succeeds where Pentrex dropped the ball on with their 4-Hour “Today’s Steam Across America”. That DVD gives me the feeling of being one giant preview show of all Pentrex’s steam centered shows up to that point in the mid-90s, with almost near exact recycled narration from each and focused solely on the mainline engines and events at that time with some of the smaller engines sprinkled in. As much as I love the big locomotives, mainline excursions these days are so rare and have lots of complications going on behind the scenes, we’re lucky to maybe have 1 month long UP trip and maybe a 2-day trip with one of the others. This DVD rectifies the aforementioned show’s shortcomings by placing the focus solely on the locomotives plying the rails of tourist railroads. These are the engines that ranking up the miles for throngs of happy railfans and vacationing tourists on an almost daily basis and it’s about time they got their time to shine. I love how this DVD shows steam’s evolution from the iconic 4-4-0 all the way to Big Boy, but again, placing most of the focus on the tourist line locomotives. While it does feature clips from previous Trains productions, they’re brief and keep the show flowing without feeling like a complete rehash.

    Extremely recommended. 5/5
