In part 1 you get to see Southern Pacific’s daylights, Cab forwards, SP MT class mountains, as well as a Mikado pulling oversized loads and early diesels on freight and passenger trains. Part 2 features a cab ride on a cab forward eastbound over donner pass and the marvelous snow fighting flangers, spreaders and steam rotary snowplows. The incredible rescue of the stranded city of San Francisco streamliner as well as some winter railroading action donner pass.

There was a time about 65-80 years ago just shorly before, during, and after WWII, the Southern Pacific provides some decent action in California & Texas. Eventually Volume 1 was silent with dubbed sounds, while volume 2 has on-location sound with various crews documenting the city of San Francisco stranded in the snowbank for a week helplessly in 1952. Great action for a trip back in time in these 2 30 minute videos from 1999.

Pretty neat footage on the SP in a quick program. The snow fighting half is especially interesting with trains stuck on Donner and rotaries, flangers, and spreaders at work clearing the line.
