Southern Pacific steam during the heyday of SP steam, in the 1940s and 1950s. We’ll see GS (Golden State) class 4-8-4s, MT class 4-8-2s, beautiful Pacific’s stretching their legs, 2-8-0s and of course the big Cab Forwards!
We spot trains in Tucson, Arizona, San Mateo, on the Coast Line, in Niles Canyon and Townsend Street Station in San Francisco. While in San Francisco we see steam led commuter trains. All with real Southern Pacific steam sound.
There is minimal narration, but maps and on screen graphics guide us throughout.

Awesome footage of steam on the Southern Pacific in the 1940’s & 1950’s, I especially like the part where GS-4 4439 reached 95 mph on its excursion and the 4437 did a great trip from LA to Indio, California. SP 2475 and an Atlantic in passenger service was great to watch as well as the commuter trains departing San Fransico even some great freight train action in Arizonia with an ex-B&M Berkshire for power. Totally awesome to watch I highly recommend this to any steam buff.
