The Soo Line 1003 is a 2-8-2 Mikado type steam engine that was donated by the Soo Line Railroad to the city of Superior, Wisconsin in 1959. Rebuilt in 1996 by the Wisconsin Railway Preservation Trust, the 1003 was once again under steam and ready to roll. This video features all of the exciting action of its inaugural season including: Fall break-in runs on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, Duluth to Two Harbors tourist train on the NSSR, Shuttle trip across Wisconsin over former Soo Line trackage – includes some freight scenes with a caboose, Osceola to New Richmond passenger trip over the St. Croix River high bridge, The 1003 doubleheading with the Northern Pacific #328 on the WC’s Dresser line, Soo Line Historical Society Convention train out of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Plus a few Soo, UP, DM&IR, and WC freight trains.

1. 1003 making a test run at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth to Two Harbors on Sunday November 10, 1996 with Great Northern SD45 number 400 as a back-up engine.
2. 1003 at Superior WI in May of 1997 with modern Soo Line diesels on a Local freight
3. 1003 returns to the LSRM for the rest of Summer 1997 with a lift bridge, pacing sequences, & some freight on the DM&IR with Yellowstone 229 on display, not to mention a look at the town of Two Harbors itself with cargo ships & Tugboat Edna G. on the lake.
4. 1003 arriving in Superior from Duluth on August 20, 1997
5. 1003 heading for the August 23, & 24 1997 trips on Wisconsin Central with a 1996 flashback from F-unit 2500 & Duluth & Northern Minnesota 14
6. 1003 operating tender first on day 2 as Union Pacific is seen at Owen & heading to Chippewa Falls after running around once again
7. 1003 from Chippewa falls to Dresser with a freight led by the steamer
8. 1003 at Osceola with an excursion on 8-23-97 & the next day on the Osceola & St. Croix with Northern Pacific 328 on a Doubleheader
