Sierra Railroad: The Sierra Railroad is like getting two railroads in one — the Sierra Railroad which carries freight, and Railtown 1897 Historic Park which is run by the State of California. The freight railroad operates with Baldwin S12 diesel locomotives. Railtown operates former Sierra Railway steam locomotives, two of which are an 1892 Rogers-built 4-6-0 and a Lima-built 3-truck Shay. You’ll see both the steam and diesel power in this look at the Sierra. Sierra Iron Horse Roundup: On Labor Day weekend 2001, the Sierra Railroad held its first steam festival. The Iron Horse Roundup. The Sierra #28, 1 2-8-0 Baldwin and Mason County #7 were the stars of the show. Former Southern Pacific #2467 a 4-6-2 Baldwin is also featured. There’s a foot race between runners and a steam locomotive, hand car races, garden railways, and much more.

Absolutely stunning views of the famous “Movie Railroad.” Some good shots following a downhill freight pulled by a classic Baldwin S12 in a stylish green paint scheme, plus awe-inspiring scenes of #2, #3, and #28 all pulling excursion trains near Jamestown and Oakdale. Adding this to your collection is recommended, but not as much as making the trek out to Railtown 1897 to see these impressive engines for yourself!
