January 1972, EMD introduced the SD40-2. This locomotive and its 645 prime mover have operated on railroads for nearly 50 years. Once superior main line power, it has been overtaken by more efficient computerized engines. Trains featured in this program all have SD40-2’s leading in all kinds of Class One service from the years 2017 to 2018.
br>Volume 4 includes all new footage of Union Pacific 40’s in both transfer and main line service. We even catch one of Canadian Pacific’s rebuilt 40’s along with a couple trains led with CSX and NS SD40-2’s. Canadian National gave us some great opportunities in this time period with both their SD40-2 and SD40-2W’s. The star of the show is BNSF, as they continued to run nine of their 40’s on the main lines in Minnesota. On several occasions, BNSF added a cabless GP38-2B in between a pair of 40’s for a rare A-B-A consist! On a couple other occasions, BNSF pulled a train with 4 SD40-2’s!
br>If you enjoy seeing these old timers still pulling high speed trains on class one rails, this video will keep you entertained for years to come! SD40-2 Survivors, Volume 4 continues the series of awesome EMD action!

Growing up back home (southeastern Ontario), working in the fields harvesting crops, we witnessed these new powerful engines….. the SD40’s, then SD40-2’s, in mainline service. They were so exciting to see, we stopped the tractors everytime one passed just to see them. Well, 50+ years later, my home location has changed by more than 3,200km’s, but the excitement of seeing the SD40’s 40-2’s, etc… has not changed. They are still the crown prince of the railroads. This series does an excellent job allowing us the opportunity at seeing these jewels in action, in great locations, by many of the railroads who owned them. Vol. # 4, 2017+ Again, not a huge difference from the previous volumes, except for changes in locations, and the power units themselves. Some rebuilts are seen, as are short moves in transfer service. This is one of those series where to miss owning one volume would be missing a lot. Packed full of great action that we may never see again as these wonderful old work horses near the end of their lives and see retirement. C-Vision does an excellent job preserving the memories of these super-stars of the railroads.
