The desolate beauty of Santa Fe’s New Mexico main over the Belen Cutoff comes alive with non-stop action from Belen, busy western terminal, to the top of the grade at Mountainair and across the high desert to Clovis. At the west end of Abo Canyon long Santa Fe trains cross the Sias Bridge high above the desert floor. At Mountainair a parade of Santa Fe power thunders past the picturesque Southwestern-style depot. The action is brisk at Dalies Junction where the Belen Cutoff and the original mainline over Raton and Glorieta Passes merge.

And the SuperFleet has arrived… with Red and Silver Warbonnets! But you’ll also get a last look at units like the SDF45, SD45 and the GP30, all soon to be gone from the Santa Fe mainline. Feel the excitement of real railroad action in this new Santa Fe program. Narrated by Rege Cordic.

  1. railfan98

Beautiful Warbonnets and Yellow Bonnets race across the New Mexico desert in this feature. It is also fascinating to see Belen before the arrival of the New Mexico Rail Runner. A few place names were mispronounced, but this is overall a great film for anyone who is into southwest railfanning!

  2. Dan

A fascinating visit to a different era in U-S railroading: classic paint schemes, vintage locomotives, consists from a generation ago, and even a landscape that seems drawn from the past. And Santa Fe’s Warbonnets aren’t yet experiencing the ravages of time. The video quality is excellent … especially considering that the footage is now more than 30 years old … and the camerawork and editing are well done. 60 minutes of timeless railroad action.

  3. Mwdonoughue

This program showcases action on the Santa Fe mainline through New Mexico, along with some scenes of Santa Fe’s “Super Fleet” – a return of the famous red-and-silver “Warbonnet” paint scheme.
