The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was a well-loved railroad… until its merger into the BNSF railway. The incredibly varied scenery that it passed through, as well as its sharp-looking locomotive fleet captivated not only railroad enthusiasts, but the general public as well.Come along for the ride as this presentation shows you the Santa Fe from Chicago to Los Angeles. This footage was shot just prior to the merger, and you will see the modern AT&SF just as you remember it, with solid sets of Warbonnet locomotives painted in red and silver, as well as those in the older yellow and blue paint scheme. You will also be treated to a variety of photo locations that showcase the varied and outstanding scenery that the railroad passed through: Joliet Union Station, Curtis Hill, Abo Canyon, Crozier Canyon, Kingman Canyon and Cajon Pass and more as you see the Santa Fe pass through Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California!

A “must have” snapshot of the Santa Fe just before it became part of the vast BNSF system. It’s a pre-merger “Best Of …” look at the ATSF, with footage from some of the railroad’s most well-known locations, and some that haven’t gotten as much attention from rail video producers. The camerawork is rock-solid and the feeling of nostalgia is priceless. If you’re only going to have one Santa Fe tribute program in your collection, this might be the one.

Anyone who knows anything about trains knows the name “Santa Fe”. The warbonnet paint scheme was the finest ever done by a railroad. No shortage here of this excellent rail paint scheme. A great tribute to one of the greatest railroads ever to operate in the USA. Lots of locations, lots of excellent trains to be seen between Chicago & LA. Beautiful scenery along the way. I think that this is one of Railway Productions finest videos.

This program shows action on the Santa Fe Transcon prior to the merger with Burlington Northern, along with Amtrak’s Southwest Chief before it was rerouted over the BN route.

Great video showing the Santa Fe before the merger with Burlington Northern with sharp looking motive power, a map of the route that the Santa Fe took, Construction of a new line over Curtis Hill, Amtrak’s Southwest Chief is included as well as two steam locomotives on display.

  5. FRANK

Nice video of the Santa Fe transcon, pre-merger. Back in the days before ditch lights, and even if they were equipped, they weren’t on. Good mix of trains passing by, and some video from the cab. Narrator sounds like Huell Howser, but not sure it’s really him. Enjoy!

  6. Warbonnet Productions

The ATSF has been my favorite railroad. From the beautiful Warbonnet scheme to the fantastic scenery, this DVD is great for Santa Fe lovers!

  7. Zac

Lots of action as the video follows trains through the midwest and the southwest to California. Also includes newer diesels painted in the warbonnet scheme.

D THE ATCHISON, TOPEKA AND SANTA FE RAILROAD BEFORE THE MERGER WITH BURLINGTON NORTHERN RAILROAD. SEE THE GREAT LOCOMOTIVES FLEET OF THIS BY GONE RAILROAD. TAKE THIS TRIP FROM CHICAGO TO LOS ANGELES, SHOT JUST BEFORE THE MERGER. GREAT SCENERY AND LOTS OF STATES TO GO THROUGH LIKE ILLINOIS, IOWA, KANSAS AND MANY MORE. LOTS OF IN YOUR FACE ACTION AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY TO BOOT. 5 STARS AND 1 HOUR AND 45 MINUTES LONG, WORTH THE MONEY.
