This action DVD depicts the fast moving trains of the Rock Island from the 1950s into the 1970s. See the pulsating passenger and freight trains as they maintain the proud, dynamic heritage of a great Midwest railroad. See grand old diesel locomotives that no longer exist. This program shows the Rock Island’s last years in the sun, because starting in 1965, the railroad lost money until it closed permanently in 1980. With this exciting video, you can relive those glory days of ‘A Mighty Fine Line’!

Originally released in 1990 & reprinted in 1996, this program chronicles the fallen flag railroad in the Midwest, especially through America’s Heartland on both passengers & freight.

In addition to the Diesels from Alcos & EMD E & F Units to Geeps & U-Boats, there are other road names like Union Pacific, a Pere Marquette Tugboat, Southern Pacific, & even a special appearance by Southern 4501, as well as a mention of Jesse James. Historic timetables, maps, & still images are also included.

There are a bunch of great locations on the Rock Island that has since been owned by UP, Metra commuter rail, BNSF, & Iowa Interstate like Greensburg, Butlin, Miniella, Denver, New Lenox, Joliet Junction Depot with the lift bridge on the Des Plaines River, Menuka, Rock Tail, Vaughn, Sayo, Englewood, Davenport, Stuart, Memphis on the Mississippi River Bridge (note the GP7 being referenced to PM 1225 on November 7, 1969-exactally 3 days before Sesame Street made its official debut), the Bridges of Blue Island, Steenes, La Salle Street Station, Centica, & Burrow Junction.

What was the “Rock Island”? this video answers that question as it show chases this fallen flag and preserves history for us to enjoy. Freight & passenger service being pulled by some beautiful old power in a region that is quite scenic. Very well done

This program showcases the many freight and passenger trains that once graced the rails of this fallen flag railroad during the final years of its existence.
