Name trains, Derby specials and freights trains, this is the L&N in Louisville in the 1940s to 1970s. We see a lot of action in and around Louisville, including Union Station, South Louisville Shops and roundhouse. Trains include Kentucky Derby Specials, regular passenger trains and, of course, freights.

You’ll see NC&StL 4-8-4s and 2-8-2s, and the name trains “City of Memphis”, “South Wind”, “Pan American”, “The Azalean”, “Humming Bird”, “The Southland”, “Gulf Wind”, and more. You’ll visit the roundhouse at DeCoursey and follow the big 2-8-4 M-1 class Berkshires in both freight and on passenger specials. This video is a must for L&N fans.

Good DVD, I enjoyed seeing the L&N locomotives and I have always had a soft spot for thier paint schemes.

Through the lens of multiple cinematographers, as well as the railroad’s own film department, this fallen flag showcases lots of steam & diesels in the American Southeast.

Aside from the L&N, there are some other road names like the Pennsylvania, NC&STL, Cumberland & Manchester, Louisville Henderson & St. Louis, C&O, NYC, Frankfort & Cincinnati, Flemingsburg & Northern, IC, Western & Atlantic with the General itself, ACL, PC, B&O, & Amtrak.

Locations include Louisville, St. Louis, Ocean Springs, Chattanooga, Collin, South Louisville Yard & Roundhouse, Cincinatti, Jeffersonville, Decoursey Yard, MN Tower, Ashland, St. Matthews, H.K. Tower in Anchorage, KY Street Yard, Springfield with a turntable, Patio Tower near Winchester, Ravenna which is the home for C&O 2716’s restoration, Red River Viaduct with an M1 Berkshire on a caboose hop, Richmond KY, Ford KY, Paris which is at the southern end of the Maysville Branch that is now operated by the Transkentucky Transportation Incorporated although there were some steam specials from 1988 to 1993-152 of course (with rare films of the 1905 Rogers Works 4-6-2 at the opening of the Museum, & the 1964 Flood), & former Reader Railroad 2-6-2 number 11, Maldroves Hill, Elizabethtown, Henderson, Oxmore, Jefferson, Shannon, Parkwood Tunnel, Spalding on the 4th of July 1966, Mobile depot, Tacoa, Tarrant City, Sherwood, New Orleans (a month before Amtrak’s debut), Hurricane, Kankakee, Momence, Oral Ridge, Cortland, & Tenlite.
