In the mid seventies, many eastern railroads were in bankruptcy. The government stepped in a formed Conrail, into which they were merged. In 1999, Conrail was split and divided between CSX and Norfolk Southern. The Reading, Lehigh Valley and Jersey Central became part of NS. Chester Kamuda has documented the Reading-Allentown-Bethlehem corridor in eastern Pennsylvania.
