Rails West, First Generation Diesels on Western Roads

First & Second Generation Diesels on the Union Pacific, Western Pacific, Southern Pacific, plus the big northern prairie line of Burlington Northern, Northern Pacific, and Great Northern.

More early diesel action is caught on crisp 16mm color film by excellent filmographer and railfan Donald J. Krofta from the Santa Fe, Denver & Rio Grande, Frisco, the Katy, Kansas City Southern and even very early Amtrak. Not exactly diesels, but Krofta also caught exciting Union Pacific Gas Turbines on film. It’s all here from several western states between the years 1965 and 1971.
