This series features classic steam power on America’s last major steam railroad. In this show we see Norfolk & Western steam trains at the N&W strongholds of Kenova, Portsmouth, Columbus and the famed Abingdon Branch. The mixed trains fo the Abingdon Branch have fascinated railfans for a long time.
Our purview here is the West End of the N&W, before the big expansions of the 1960s. We’ll see steam locomotive classes J (4-8-4), K (4-8-2), Y (2-8-8-2), A (2-6-6-4), M (4-8-0) and S (0-8-0) in service on both mainlines and branchlines.
This is Volume 1 of an 8 volume series. Each volume is unique in its focus and presentation…yes, the N&W had that much to present and we are lucky that some of the nation’s best railfan and filmographers pointed their lens at N&W steam locomotives.
