The great Pennsylvania Railroad dominated its namesake state. After the Penn Central merger debacle, the Federal Government assumed control of most of the northeastern roads. The Consolidated Rail Corporation, was set up to operate these lines. There were a lot of lines to operate, upgrade and consolidate in the Keystone State and Conrail did a masterful job, eventually going public and making the government a huge profit. This program covers the mainline around Altoona, the heart of the Pennsy, including the “Brickyard”, Horseshoe Curve, Gallitzin and Cresson. Away from Altoona , we also catch some action at Enola Yard at Harrisburg.

Two and three train meets, Pennsy position light signals, SD40-2 and SD45-2 helpers, three tunnels at Gallitzin, this video has it all! Filmed in the early 90s, there is plenty of action between Cresson and Altoona. I’ve been to these locations many times and have my own video, it’s still fun to watch since Conrail is gone. I recommend this for any Conrail fan or anyone who would like to see operations in the early 90s.
