When these films were made around 1955, it is probable that the city of Philadelphia had more trolleys running to more destinations and with greater frequency than any other city in the United States. From such a wide array of choices, this video covers eight of the most interesting and scenic lines.
Route 26: Wissahickon Creek in Germantown across the top of Philadelphia and out the semi-rural line to Fox Chase.
Route 52: North from Schuylkill River in old double enders on Chelten Road.
Route 6: From Olney Terminal at the subway’s northern end into the countryside on private right of way to Willow Grove.
Route 20: From Olney Terminal south the entire length of the city of Philadelphia all the way to the Naval Base and the Delaware River.
Routes 17 & 32: Across the center of Philadelphia, East to West on Market Street, from the river, around City Hall, then south on 16th and 18th avenues through South Philadelphia.
Routes 33 & 9: Across the center of Philadelphia east to west; then 33 turns North by the Art Museum to the city limits; and 9 goes south through South Philadelphia.
Route 42: All the way across the center of Philadelphia from the Delaware River, over the Schuylkill Bridge to 60th Street and Cobbs Creek, passing en route the PRR 32nd Street Station, Franklin Field and the Convention Center.
Route 37: A detailed study of the Market Street crossing of the Schuylkill where the subway and five different trolley routes funnel together and dive underground en route to City Hall.

  1. rickyfreni

Originally released in 1988 that was made in Co-operation with the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, this is one of the longest Sunday River titles ever made.

There are a bunch of locations between the connection of the D&RGW narrow gauge’s 4th division at Durango & Ridgeway before the RGS was out of business for good after 1951.

This program also has interviews from Jack Brinkerhoff, Eloise & Gilbert Talbert, George Connor, Bill Wagner, Norton Brewster, Ruby Gonzales, Fermin Lobato, Jack Thode, Robert Richardson (explaining the history of Goose 2 from the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden), & Cameraman Richard Kindig.

While the opening minutes contain what is left of the RGS after 1951 due to the rails being ripped up, the majority of this program contains action from Steam locomotives such as K-27 type Mikados 461, 454, 459, & Future famous survivors 463, & 464. Plus, future famous surviving 10 Wheeler number 20, future famous surviving 2-8-0s 318 & 340, 319, 271, 74, & the iconic Galloping Goose Motorcars, which includes a ride on one of them while heading south & back.

An aftermath of the wreck of 455 is also included.

  2. Chase

A must have for RGS fans with awesome footage along the railroad and when it was torn up. Interviews with those who were lucky enough to work for the railroad and to live around it. Very cool scenes that may have not been seen by others before. Great shots all around the railroad.
