See the Montana Rail Link gas local and freights out of Missoula and Helena, MT with diesel power ranging from GP9 to SD70ACe’s. The Eastern Idaho railroads north and south divisions are covered with yard switching, locals and road freights. The Boise Valley Railroad starts along the UP mainline at Nampa, ID as we follow the Boise turn job along its 25 mile route that also passes by the beautifully restored ex UP Boise Depot. Plus as an added bonus, we caught the Union Pacific 4014, a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy on its inaugural trip out of Cheyenne, WY. This train also ran as a double header with UP 844, a 4-8-4 Northern. Rail footage is the spring of 2019 from the camera of Bradley A. Plets.

In Part 1 of this series, there is a big variety of steam & diesel action in Montana Idaho & Wyoming which all of these scenes were captured in the final year of the 2010s decade.
Here’s the segments that are shown in order:
1. The since been sold Montana Rail Link with other road names like BNSF & Norfolk Southern at spots like De Smet, Missoula, Emerald Hill, MP 10 at Arlee, Dixon, Flathead River, Paradise Valley, John Mullan Pass, Helena with Northern Pacific 10-Wheeler 1382 on display, MP 234, Winston, Townsend, Louisville Siding, Plains, Clark Fork River Bridge, St. Regis under in I-90 bridge, Superior, Syr, Lathrop, & Frenchtown.
2. Eastern Idaho at Idaho Falls, St. Anthony, Rexburg, Ucon (not spelled as Y-U-K-O-N), Rupert with 4039 (Referred to a US Army 0-6-0 in New Jersey), Burley, Buhl, Paul, Hazelton, Eden, Falls City, & Heyburn.
3. The Inaugural run of Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 from Cheyenne to Ogden with 844 on a doubleheader to participate for 150 years of the Golden Spike. Aside from Brad, countless railroad video producers were also there for the Big Boy’s revival: 7Idea, Revelation, Pentrex, Trains Magazine, the late TJ Weber of Belt Line Videos, Mike Armstrong, James Parfrey of Steam Train Videos, & 2 Producers of America by Rail: Les Jarrett of Railway Productions, & 5 or 6 camera crews for Greg Scholl. There is a goof however that Brad says that 3985 was converted to oil in the 80s, when he should’ve meant 1990.
And 4. Boise Valley at Nampa Yard, Boise that has UP 2-8-2 2295 on display with a Caltrain F40 idling, Meridian, & Perkins.
