This program covers great NS diesel action with motive power from SD40-2s & C40-8s, to some special steam appearances by Norfolk & Western 611 (special black & white effects) & 1218 on excursion duties as they carry lots of hoppers of coal: loaded & empty. Not to mention still images of early electrics when steam was still in charge, as well as Y4A 2-8-8-2 number 2092 involved in a massive wreck in Maybeury on the last day of June 1937.

Other road names aside from NS include Norfolk & Western (both in modern & vintage films), Conrail, CSX, a ford pick-up truck used for track inspection, Wabash, Southern, Chicago & Northwestern, & Nickel Plate 587 double-heading with 611 on the 1989 Independence Limited between Bellevue Ohio & Roanoke VA.

Locations include Bluefield, Farm, Falls Mills, Blue Stone, Elkhorn Tunnel (which was once single track when it was built, but now it’s the longest double track tunnel in America), the bridge & tunnel & Cooper West Virginia (one of Greg Scholl’s personal favorite locations on the entire N&W system), the Blue Stone Branch at Bramwell, Maybeury, Ennis, Switchback, Northfork with one car ignoring the rules of railroad safety, Keystone, Eckman, Landgraff, Vivian Tunnel at Kimball, Big Four, Huger with another wreck in 1959, Welch (with stills of 475 in regular service before it resides at the Strasburg Railroad), Tug Tower, Hemphill, Davy, Twin Branch Tunnels, more tunnels at Roderfield, Vaughn, Laurel, & Gordon at Sandy Ridge which is the longest tunnel on the N&W, plus Sandy Huff, & the Dry Fork Branch at Iaeger.

Great video. Lot’s of iconic diesel power and really shows how cool Norfolk Southern was back then compared to nowadays.

Awesome dvd lots of train footage and older style locos. Lots of Southern and NW stuff on here and some footage of NW 611 and 1218. Very nice dvd
